Remember the gimmicks played by game companies to unlock stages in your game CDs that are actually present in those CDs. All that the companies ask for is few extra dollars and they give you keys using which you can unlock more sections of the game for an added fun. Intel is now openly testing something very similar with its hardware.
To amaze its customers Intel is openly charging $50 extra so that you can download software which will help you unlock extra threads in the newly launched Pentium G6951 processor. Well, usually chip making companies sell off chips that have some unlocked sections and they call this process as binning.
The excuse that they provide is that some sections of the chip were left unlocked as that part of the silicon proved to be defective. Seems like Intel has started to charge for those extra unlocked sections and somehow those sections are now being utilized by Intel to earn few extra bucks.
This step is still under experiments from Intel but if it proves to be profitable then days aren’t far away when we will have to pay extra bucks to unlock sections of graphics card and similar cases.
